a.Double check the power and data cable connections.
b.Try switching to different SATA ports on the Motherboard.
c.Check the drive out in a buddies machine to see if it can be recognized. It could be dead already (rare, but it does happen)

Hi , bit more info: on first attempt Windows loaded and installed ok. Had a problem with Graphics card so powered off and reconnected the pcie cables. Then tried to start again , turned on , black screen came up ans said insert cd into disc drive and press enter it then starts to install it says "we couldn't find any drives , to get a storage driver click " load driver". Don't have a cd for the hard drive .
Tried switching cables /ports etc but no joy.
Went into bios and no drives are showing.. but windows installed somewhere on the first attempt????
Thanks for your help

I believe you have successfully installed the OS on the Hard Drive.
But it sounds like an intermittent fault in the HDD or the cable connecting it. Try a different cable.

Note: When it asked for a bootable cd in the disk drive, it was referring to the optical drive. That means it did not detect a bootable device during that attempt to boot.
