I just helped a friend unlock his Phenom II X3 B75 to a stable quad core. Needless to say, he is quite pleased.
But what kind of took me by surprise, is that I expected the unlocked 3GHZ Ph II X3 to be listed as a Phenom II X4 945 in CPU-Z. However, it is reporting that it is a Phenom II X4 975 instead (still at 3GHZ). It's kind of an old chip for CPU-Z not to have that error corrected by now. He's using the latest version of CPU-Z.
Could it be that these started out life as faulty Phenom II X4 975 chips down-clocked to 3GHZ and one core disabled for whatever reason?
