Adding ssd to 2 hdd's, making the ssd the boot drive for the OS

It will speed up your boot times as well as your program load times. It won't do anything for making your processor or gpu more capable or allow to play/run things you couldn't before.

You have 7 sata2 ports as far as I could tell so dont expect to see the large 500MB/s sequential speeds you would see on sata3 ports but 240+ is still really good considering you rarely use sequential anyways; random speed is where you will be most of the time and those speeds can't saturate a sata2 bus.

The only concern is if you can mount the ssd on a non-raid sata port and if you can't then how do you pass a single drive thru the raid controller? Usually its a single drive raid1 or JBoD.
