Hi I have the HP p7 1245. I just bought a new psu and graphics card. I did everything and now when I turn on my computer, it gets stuck on the starting screen showing the HP welcome screen. pressing the keys wont do anything. help please!

Solution
I found more information on that jumper setting even though it is still poorly documented. It could have something to do with PCI interactions.

Perhaps try installing the original driver for IME(intel management engine) after doing the FDO disabling from above post?

Actually, after the blue HP screen, I can press the esc key to bios. There it shows all my specs including. However I cant do anything after that, and every key I press makes a small noise

Well 1 beep usually means that it is posting. Is it a series of beeps in any pattern? What card did you buy, what power supply did you buy? The power supply could be undervolting, or the video card could be bad. Unfortunately it can happen.

Hi all, my semi computer expert friend came over tonight. He did everything and concluded that my motherboard is simply too old for the gTX 660.
Right now my computer consists of everything pre build except its using a new 600w psu. The computer I bought released in 2011, and the motherboard could be the cause after many trial and errors.

This makes sense, since my computer with old graphics card and handle the new 600w psu. But when the gtx 660 is put, the computer simply stops at the link I sent to you guys.

I do not see a reason it WOULDN'T work... You have the slots for it. Does your old card work in the motherboard once you switched back? You could put a GTX titan in there and it should work. It would be a complete waste, but it should work.

There are only 2 things I can see why this wouldn't work:

1. The power supply is bad. The video card that comes with your computer does not require external power to the card itself. Which power supply did you buy. Make and model please. Putting your components into a PSU calculator it shows the draw should only be in 330's. So you should have more then enough.

2. The new video card is bad. It happens. It sucks when it happens, but it happens.

Please supply with make and model of power supply.

so after researching further, oem parts are a scam.. very restrictive when it comes to upgrading parts; even though my motherboard should work, it doesnt because hp. good stuff. never gonna buy prebuild pcs evar again

I agree about never buying a pre-built. When you open up the case is the led power light blinking? I've been reading some HP support docs and found a pre-video graphics error. The possible fix is to disable the FDO jumper after resetting cmos. I can't find a straight answer as to what FDO is exactly but it appears to allow you to program the bios firmware and it also may disable ME settings which stands for Management Engine. I know this all sounds screwy but it might be worth a shot.
Disconnect power cord, reset cmos, find the FDO jumper(it's outlined on your motherboard link), place the jumper to the disabled position. Replace power cord and start up.
