I bought a set (2 modules, 2 GB each for a total of 4 GB, Latency 9-9-9, 1333 MHz) Kingston DDR3 Memory Modules. When I look at the slots, three are black and the one closest to the fan on the inboard side is yellow. Does it matter which slots in the motherboard I install the new memory into? There was one DDR2 5400C4 module 4-4-4-12 installed which I removed. I am going to put it into a different computer that has the same type in it. Is it OK to put the DDR3 memory in where the DDR2 came out? The memory has the same number pins and spacing so it will plug into the Motherboard. (I do not have the motherboard manual.)

Solution
if it's dual channel RAM (on the mobo) you have to place 1 stick in the slot closest to the cpu and 1 stick in the 3rd one from the cpu so it would look like this: 1-0-1-0 with 1's presenting RAM and 0's presenting empty slot

Thanks for the quick reply. Upon closer inspection, the new memory module I have will NOT physically plug into the MB, the spacer slot is slightly offset by about 5 pins.
