I have a Seagate 640gb hard drive. When I was cleaning, I accidentally bumped to the table and my hard drive fell. I tested it to my laptop to see if something is wrong and it goes undetected. I tried finding solutions in the internet and tried some but didn't work. I tried opening it in Computer>Manage>Disk Management but I still didn't see my hard drive. I remember when everything was still ok, that the light from my hard drive was blinking on and off, but now, it's just stable. All my pictures, portfolios, thesis paper and other school works are in there. Please help :(

Such tales of woe I see or hear often, and they could all have been avoided (that is, data-loss avoided) if the data had been backed up to another hard drive on a regular basis, because accidental drops are not the only thing to be concerned about. All hard drives fail eventually, some slowly, some suddenly, and you have to be prepared for such things.

The shock from the fall has physically damaged the hard drive. Recovering the data from it (or at least some of it) cannot be done on a home computer if the drive can't be accessed. The only only option open to you is to take it/send it to a data recovery specialist which is eye-wateringly expensive (another good reason to keep your data backed up).

I wish I could give you better news than this but I'd be lying if I did.
