Don't buy a CPU to fit a motherboard........decide on the CPU that you need then pick a motherboard for that CPU. The CPU is much more important than the board. All that matters with a board is features.

That's exactly why you pick a CPU first. And don't waste money going with LGA 2011 unless you can afford a 6 core CPU. There is no point at all in spending all the extra money for LGA 2011 and then buying a quad core CPU. An i7 4770K is a faster CPU anyway. The 4820k although it a 4xxx chip is based on the Ivy Bridge architecture. The 4770k is based on Haswell and will be 10% faster clock for clock. Not to mention the motherboards are more expensive with LGA 2011 and you need quad channel RAM.

LGA 2011 is for high end workstations and people using CAD programs or people who do professional video encoding and editing and need the most powerful system available. Or gamers who can afford 3 to 4 of the highest end video cards like 4 Titans or GTX 780 Ti cards.

4820K and Rampage IV Black - LGA 2011 = Expensive for what you get. CPU is 10% slower than an i7 4770k. Only way you need it is for 6 core CPUs and programs that can make use of them or the highest end gaming builds with 3 or 4 of the highest end video cards. Motherboard is old and was designed for the first gen LGA 2011 chips i7 38xx chips. May not be compatible with the i7 48xx chips without a BIOS update. Needs quad channel RAM ( 4 matched sticks ).

i7 4770k - LGA 1150 = The newest and best choice for a gaming computer with up to 2 or even 3 of the highest end video cards or even a non professional video editing machine. Much cheaper overall and is actually faster in anything that can't use the extra cores of LGA 2011. Uses dual channel RAM ( 2 matched sticks ).

I don't know why you sold what you had, it was perfect. If you want better gaming performance you should have got rid of those AMD 7xxx series cards and got either a single more powerful card or gone with Nvidia for an Sli setup. The frame pacing issue has been fixed as much as they can with drivers but even with the completely new architecture R9 290 and 290X and their fixed memory controllers AMD is still behind Nvidia as far as multiple cards go. At least if you like real world performance without micro stuttering. In benchmarks they look the same.

You can get an i7 4770k but you will not notice any difference between it and the 3770k. The 4770k is roughly 10% faster clock for clock but the 3770k will overclock higher.
