So as the title suggests I am trying to install the most recent driver (13.4 at this time) to my xubuntu system. When I go to download the driver using

wget http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/amd-catalyst-13.4-lin...

it displays

Which appears to me that it hasn't actually downloaded, yet I continued on and tried unziping the file with

unzip amd-catalyst-13.4-linux-x86.x86_64.zip

and get back

a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on

unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of amd-driver-installer-12-1-x86.x86_64.run or

and have no idea what has gone wrong as I am typically a windows user. Any help will be much appreciated.

Are you using wget to download it? I had so much trouble with going that route. I just downloaded it from the link on AMD's web site. I am also having an issue where my HD 6850 is only being recognized as a VESA device. Games still play "ok" ... I honestly get much better performance with Windows 7 but I'm to lazy to reboot most days.

Edit: If you want me to explain how I installed it just let me know ...

ok RaccoonPete, sent you a PM with step by step instructions on how "I" install the Catalyst driver. I hope it helps ... I reinstalled Ubuntu and Mint twice and finally settled on Fedora 19 trying to get the driver issue sorted. WoW plays pretty good using Playonlinux/wine with directx9 mode ... opengl performance sucks for me. Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 play good ... well all my games are decently playable, but I mainly just play WoW these days. The drivers do improve on HDMI audio ... which has been decent since catalyst 12.11. If you have any problems let me know and I will try to help the best I can.
