Hi, I'm new to graphic cards installation, and I can't get my newly bought MSI R9 270X OC edition to work.
Right now I have a HP Envy Phoenix h9-1350 and using a AMD Radeon HD 7670 and would like to upgrade it to play upcoming games better (while playing old games for the mean times).
I don't understand why the screen was always black when I boot it up, since the fans of the cards are smooth and fine. Right now I'm still using win 8 (didn't upgrade to 8.1), have 8GB RAM.

Please tell me what I did wrong or what should I do to get this to work. I'm really pump to play Star Citizen and replay Tomb Raider on high/ultra (if possible) setting. ( π _ π)

this may be stupid, but its the only thing i can think of. did you plug your monitor cable into the GPU instead of the motherboard?

Sir, I have everything done. I even disable iGPU and rebooted with the new GPU. Not working at all.

how about you make sure that your pci-e power connector is in properly, if not then it's definitely a defective unit, send it back as DOA.

I connected it with 2 6-pin power connector which have P10 and P11 written on it. The fan always stopped about 3 or 4 seconds (it didn't beep like other topics) after booting up then it continued spinning afterwards. Tried with VGA, DVI, DVI->VGA cable, HDMI. Oh and when the screen said to be scanning on the HDMI it stopped there longer than DVI and VGA, seems like it picked up something.
I'm not sure, but could it be RAM problem? like need more RAM or something?

I happened across a possible solution for you (a year later than your post) while searching for help trying to figure out why my HP with a Formosa board keeps shutting off at exactly 30 minutes to the second. Hopefully this will some of you. Good luck.
