Hi, I'm new to graphic cards installation, and I can't get my newly bought MSI R9 270X OC edition to work.
Right now I have a HP Envy Phoenix h9-1350 and using a AMD Radeon HD 7670 and would like to upgrade it to play upcoming games better (while playing old games for the mean times).
I don't understand why the screen was always black when I boot it up, since the fans of the cards are smooth and fine. Right now I'm still using win 8 (didn't upgrade to 8.1), have 8GB RAM.

Please tell me what I did wrong or what should I do to get this to work. I'm really pump to play Star Citizen and replay Tomb Raider on high/ultra (if possible) setting. ( π _ π)

If you are using a DVI-VGA converter(supplied with the card) make sure you connect it to the port as said below: 1. Disable onboard GPU.
2. Connect to the one on the top of the pic.

How do I disable onboard GPU? And yes, I tried HDMI, VGA->DVI and also my other DVI cable.
None work. Except for my screen seems to detect something from the HDMI since it stopped and tried to scan there longer than the others.

EDIT: I'll try.

R9 270X requires two 75w pci e power cables, did you connect them all?
If you dont have two connetors then you can always use this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5-6-Pin-PCI-Express-PCIe-Powe... Though I recommend you get a new psu.

I have a 600w HP psu that have the power connector for the GPU. 2 6-pins, one labelled P10 and the other P11.
Actually it was shipped together with those molex->PCIe cable already.
Just want to summarize things up: I have no problem with the card installing or stuff, except for the fact that:
1. The fan always stopped 3 or 4 seconds after booting up, then it continued spinning without any problem afterward.
2. I'm trying to install a MSI R9 270x right now

could possibly be a faulty card. You said you have installed it correctly and the 6 pins adapters are connected but is the card fully seated in the pcie slot?

Yes, and the fans are running fine (except for a 2 seconds stop after boot)

what is your power supply it might not be feeding the card enough power also if you can, try the card in another computer and see if the problem is still there might be a faulty card

edit seen you posted 600w that should be more then enough to run the card

that's why I'm wondering if it's my part or it's pure defective card.

yeh it seems like a faulty card but to eliminate that try it in another computer if one is available or take it down to your local pc shop and have them check it
