Hey guys! Ive been looking into getting a new PC for a while. I have an old laptop that I currently use for school and gaming, but I can barely run games on the lowest settings.

Recently I have been seriously looking into how to build a good gaming computer. I have researched a lot of parts and put what I thought was best. I will mostly use this computer for semi-serious gaming: Skyrim, Borderlands 2, Warframe, and Battlefield 4. In addition to gaming, I also do video editing and the occasional programming and would like to do some mining. My price range is about $800-900 but I could go up to around $1000 if necessary.

Here is the build that I have thought of so far:

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2b95p

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Microcenter)

Motherboard: Asus Z87-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($94.99 @ Newegg)

Storage: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($69.95 @ Adorama)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X 3GB Video Card ($299.99 @ NCIX US)
Case: Corsair 500R White ATX Mid Tower Case ($64.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Rosewill Hive 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($39.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($16.98 @ OutletPC)
Total: $916.85
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Also, I am not sure what video card to get or what one I would need to perform well in these tasks (The 280x was one that a friend had recommended, but if possible, I would like to spend less than that for my GPU)

Any comments or tips that you guys have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

That's a really nice rig as compared to the price, you will surely get the best performance of what you have paid. Now, everything is totally cool, your cpu and gpu are also perfect for gaming. Your friend has recommended the perfect gpu for the price, because you won't be getting similar performance by any other gpu which is cheaper than $300. So don't consider degraging your gpu as it is the best bang for the buck under $300. I wouldn't recommend changing anything as all the componens are perfect for the price.

Thanks for the quick reply! I recently saw this motherboard on sale at microcenter as a part of a deal with the CPU, and was wondering if it would work in my build as well.

Yes, it will work just fine, it also has CF support but no sli. I guess that shouldn't be any problem to you as you are buying r9 280x. So go for it.
