Seemingly can't buy a r9 280x, what would you suggest instead?

So I went to buy the MSI r9 280x and unfortunately no one seems to have them (I must mention I am in the UK) in fact, a couple of suppliers seem to believe that they have been discontinued.

So I looked at the other r9 280x cards, but to no avail. Once again I am told they are discontinued or just out of stock.

So I have pretty much every other component I need except a GPU, which is rather important as I want to play games.

So what would you suggest for a replacement to the r9 280x, I have a budget of £250 for the card.
It will be running with a fx-8350 on an Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0.

I will be playing, Skyrim, Minecraft, Assassins Creed, Thief, Star Citizen, Batman.

Any and all help is much appreciated.

  2. its a new card and also on high demand, so it is surely only out of stock not discontinued. You might want to buy online amazon or what jay2577 said :)
  3. Novatech has the
    VTX3D AMD Radeon R9 280X 3GB GDDR5 for £219.98 inc vat

  5. I wouldn't be two surprised if they stop making them, the non-X model is significantly cheaper than the value for performance - which is heavily noted in all of the reviews of the newer card. Either just but one of them or spend a little bit more and buy two...

Edit: Sorry , I thought you said 290.. Even still, get a 290 and reflash it... - http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/graphics/display/20131121230059_AMD_Radeon_R9_290_Can_Be_Easily_Transformed_into_R9_290X_Report.html

I went for the one on overclockers, I saw they had some, but I was dubious about them, but at the end of the day I have heard some good things and I can get my money back pretty easily if anything does go wrong.

Those ones on ebuyer and novatech aren't showing up for me, weird.
  7. And also: Scan, Aria, Dabs, CCL, Pixmania and MicroDirect. Although it's likely some of them have limited stock as well.
  8. Defs go scan over overclockers...
  9. I have literally used overclockers lots and lots of times and they have never let me down. Also if you select DPD as the delivery you can track the delivery van by gps on the day of arrival:) I hate waiting for the delivery vans myself and find it very handy. Happy gaming on your new card:)
