hi all experts..
i have a major problem with my new ram kingston hyperx khx1600c9d3k2 8gx. when i start my pc it doesnt beep and a black screen stays on..i found out that this ram is compatible with my asus p5q3 motherboard. when i put my old ram back (hyperx too) it works fine. tried removing bios battery and changing voltages..help plz!

Asus tells this.
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5Q3/#specifications
4 x DIMM, Max. 16 GB, DDR3 1800(O.C.)/1600/1333/1066 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel memory architecture
*DDR3 1600MHz or above DIMMs work only on the Orange slots for one DIMM per channel.
*When installing total memory of 4GB capacity or more, Windows® 32-bit operation system may only recognize less than 3GB. Hence, a total installed memory of less than 3GB is recommended.
*Refer to www.asus.com or this user manual for the Memory QVL(Qualified Vendors Lists).

That memory is not compatible with that mobo.
New rams are too big. And because Aus do not makeany bios updates to that mobo. It is not working. Old stickswork but new is not. Single Rank module uses only one 64-bit memory channel and the main issue when it comes to compatibility is that the DRAM chips on the module are larger and most likely not recognizable by the motherboard.

thanks for your time axlfone.
the thing is that i have win7 64-bit and 2x4 ram so i suppose it should've worked as asus says that this mobo can hold up to 16gb. i tried using the orange slots too. didn't work. so if you are sure it wont work i'll have to change both mobo and processor cause i have core 2 quad q9505. what do you suggest? is there any good mobo that you're sure its compatible with my new ram? or idealy is there a mobo that's both compatible with my cpu and my new ram?? thanks for your help

in one of my many trials the mobo recognised 4+1gb one of each of my ram mixed...i dont know if this shows anything or you still think its time to upgrade..thanks again

Memory is issue some times. I have now 8Gb+4GB+2*2Gb sticks. All 1600MHz. Cl 9,9,9,9,24
And it is working 1833MHz just fine. Corsair 8+4GB and G.skill 2GB
I need just buy more corsair because plan is to get 32GB 4*8GB total.

But maybe I upgrade next when comes out new DDR 4 and new mobo+cpu.
But for normal usage 3770k / 4770k is amazing fast cpu.

If Asus PRO + 4770k is not too expensive. Id say go for it.
With good coolerOC to 4.8GHz it is amazing fast cpu mobo combo.
Then it is good to have faster memory too. 1866 / 2133/ 2400MHz.
And SSD for better read / write speeds. Samsung PRO is good choice.
For cpu cooler this is good. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-cpu-cooler-nhu14s
This enables you to use 4.8GHz with 4770k.
With good case + fans. (needs good air flow)

That really looks good. No need for hassle with settings. Just use. Really easy way to get amazing fast build.

Hi, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer our assistance. There are actually multiple BIOS updates available for this motherboard. Latest version 1102 and previous version 1001 states "Enhance the compatibility with certain memory". If your BIOS is not at least version 1001 it would be best to update it with your old memory installed then see if the new memory will work properly. It is always best to check and update your BIOS prior to installing new memory as it may add compatibility for newer chips even if it doesn't specifically state it in the description. If this is not the issue or you have any additional questions, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.
