how to change wireless internet connection to wired

I have had a wireless connection to my PC but the signal was poor. I have now had my modem moved closer to the PC and wish to change to a wired connection for best speed and have removed the wireless adapter from the PC but on switch on computer asks me to insert the wireless adapter. I want to use the ethernet connection only.

You probably have not removed software associated with your old wireless adaptor.
Don't think windows will give such a prompt..
So just make sure you uninstalled any "wireless helper" type applications.. make sure all software is picking up your new Ethernet connection (should all do this automatically. but you never know, if some badly written software having been set up with wireless in place.. now expects it to be there).
Do all that, and your prompt should stop.
