Sub-$700 new build for Multimedia and Casual Gaming Feedback (First Timer)

Hey All,

I'm a first time builder and am looking to put together a system primarily for Photoshop and Matlab along with some casual gaming (WoW at mid-high settings). I want to buy the pieces and parts over the holidays so in the next 2 months or so. My concern right now is that I'm overpowering this system for what I really need, however I would rather be too powerful then pushing my limits. Any tips you have would be much appreciated. I've been using PCPartPicker to help select components. Here's what I've got so far...

Intel Core i3-3220 3.3GHz Dual-Core Processor

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus 76.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

ASRock Z77 Extreme3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard

G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk

Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB Video Card

Thermaltake Chaser A31 ATX Mid Tower Case

Corsair CX 500W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer

I'm also going to need to connect to a wireless network and I'm not sure what to get for that.

Thanks ahead of time for the help!

  1. Yeah, you are kind of over doing it.
look at this, most than 150$ off your build, and has sufficient power.
