Hey,

Hoping someone can point me somewhere to help me resolve this issue I'm having. I have an alienware comp that's a couple years old now..it came with a gtx460. I decided to do a budget upgrade today and I installed a 650 Ti boost. After installing the card, booting it back up, installing the drivers and rebooting again...I have no sound.

I have tried everything I can think of and that I could find on google to no result. I've checked the bios, the onboard sound is still enabled(I use the realtek onboard sound on the mobo). I'm running this on Windows 7 64bit...I've checked the playback devices in the audio to make sure it wasn't forced over to HDMI...it wasn't it's still using the default as the speakers for Realtek. I unplug my headset in the jacks in the back and plug it back in and it detects that I've plugged in an audio device.

I've tried uninstalling the HDMI audio drivers, I've reinstalled the drivers for the realtek onboard sound, I've plugged in speakers instead of the headset...nothing works! I've even pulled out the new card and put my old one back in and it still doesn't work. I've checked to see if there was an IRQ conflict and there isn't one either. I just don't understand what is going on and I'm desperate for a solution here....

Solution
I just uninstalled my 650ti and realized it had an audio driver with it.

Try going to add/remove programs and see if there is an audio driver installed with your gpu. you should be able to uninstall it without compromising your drivers.

Let us know if this works

Hey guys thanks for the responses.

I have removed the card after uninstalling it and put in the old gtx 460 and reinstalled it and the sound still didn't work. Since then I've uninstalled it and the drivers related to it and put the new card back in and nada.

Thyrax I've also tried removing the Nvidia audio drivers (they install HDMI audio drivers when I install the driver). After removing them it still didn't work. It's so weird because from a purely software standpoint...it looks like its working. I can unplug my headset and plug it back in and it detects that I've plugged in an audio device. When I'm in the playback devices and I right click the default Stereo device and I click Test, it looks like it plays a sound but I don't hear anything. I mean I see the Green audio indicator flash like its playing something. I'm just at my wit's end here...I think I'm going to just go and buy a pci-e soundcard and install that after disabling the onboard sound. After searching through these forums and everything else I could find on Google none of the solutions I've tried work for me...extremely frustrating.
