I was looking to possibly upgrade my CPU and am not sure if it is really worth it.

Current system specs:
CPU: i7-860
GPU: Sapphire 2gb HD6950
Ram: 8gb
HD: (1) SanDisk Ultra Plus 128gb SSD
(2) 1tb HDD

Thanks for the advice so far. I guess one of the bigger things on my mind is that currently I am using a pretty stock Dell 8100 XPS. I was looking to move on to building myself a new rig, I've just been waiting for a good time/price. At this time, I can get an i5 3570k & GIGABYTE GA-Z77-DS3H for $250 from Tiger Direct(http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8688719&CatId=6982). Trying to find a motherboard right now for this i7-860 that is more....'user friendly' than the Dell mobo is difficult for a decent price. Currrently the SSD I have is SataIII and I know for a fact the mobo I have doesnt support it, so that's another reason I was looking to get that combo. Opinions?

I think it's always good to move away from prebuilt machines:)
I still think the graphics card is something you'll need to look at soon for gaming purposes if gaming is your thing.
The i5 3570k & GIGABYTE GA-Z77-DS3H would be a good start to your own build and maybe look at a graphics card later. I think the i5 and new motherboard is a better option than buying a new motherboard for your i7.
It's your decision though:p

Yeah, I use to build my own pc's a lot and then a series of problems with mobo's and ram so I finally gave up at one point and just bought one to save myself the headache. Now i'm looking to get back into building again. I know it's always difficult with prebuilt machines.

I think I am leaning more towards the combo deal as it is a much better stepping stone. I really can't do much with this pc I have now.
Then slowly I can start adding things to OC it and get more use out of it. Thanks for the advice fellas. Think I'm gonna go with the bundle. (Plus it's gonna be a christmas present to myself from someone)
