External Hard disk error of formating

Dear sir,
I m having a external hard-disk of seagates in which i m having some imp. documents back-up in that but it shows me error to format. what can i do i need my backup plz. help me by providing solution to me.

Simply the OS is unable to read the external drive. First make it read, by plugging it on different ports(front/back) USB2.0/3.0.

Try it on safe-mode.

Try it on another system, or another OS, see if it gets detected there.

Try it numerous times but properly eject it.

Try to uninstall the external drive from Device Manager, then Scan for Hardware Changes under Action menu.

You can try by replacing the USB cable.

Or if the warranty is over then open/break the caddy/case of the drive and try to connect it with a desktop MB directly as a second HDD to recover data.
