4GB x 1 or 1 x 4GB ---- Confusion

I have one memory stick which is 4GB DDR3 , i am in process to upgrade and add another 4GB stick, hence i want to know whether my existing RAM is of (4GB x 1) or (1 x 4GB) configuration---- I hope there is a difference between the two, though not sure.

some RAM's that i have shortlisted show such specifications, some say they are 4GB x 1 others say 1 x 4 GB for single 4GB memory stick

Hence let me know if that is a point to be considered for compatibility issues before buying another 4GB memory stick and adding to my existing 4GB DDR3 RAM

i want to ensure the other stick which i buy is compatible and works in dual channel mode with my existing stick

Also i have part specification document of my existing RAM downloaded from Samsung's website- if anyone wishes to see before commenting i can send that, since i am a rookie i cannot figure out myself from that manual :)

Meanwhile, i have figured out other compatibility specifications (to ensure dual channel mode) like latency, frequency, voltage etc.- Do i need to look for some other specification other than these

Hence help me in sorting this confusion

Thanks in advance.for your support.....

Hi I am not getting same brand and model, samsung site says its 4GB DDR3 System Memory at 1600MHz (4GB x 1)
SODIMM x 2

Does it mean it is (4GB x 1) configuration?

That's a confusing description. ...x 2....x 1.
Have a link to it?

Yes here is the link (Please look under specs)

http://www.samsung.com/hk_en/consumer/computer-peripherals/personal-computers/series-3/NP350E5C-S01HK-spec

And below is link for memory I have shortlisted (please check if thats compatible with my existing RAM)- I have checked latency, voltage, and frequency which are same with my existing RAM

Yeah, that is pretty confusing. It seems to say that it comes with 1 4GB stick, but there are two slots. Says nothing about the total possible RAM.
I suggest you go through the Crucial analyzer and see what that says.

I have done that, it says there are 2 slots, maximum support is 16 GB, their customer support team don't know about 1 x 4GB or 4GB x 1 difference- the RAM they are recommending also don't show details of this configuration

All this is making me to think whether there is anything like 1 x 4GB or 4GB x 1- and if there is no difference and they are pretty much same thing, why cant all manufacturers show similar format specifications to avoid unnecessary confusion

1 x 4GB is the same as 4GB x 1. Get whatever works.

Just applied new RAM which i had ordered with my existing Samsung RAM, both are working in Dual mode (CPU-Z)

All others details checked are exactly the same Windows experience index up to 7.5 from 5.9 (RAM)

Hopefully the new RAM is welcomed by my laptop :)
