I'm trying to copy files from an HD from a laptop I've installed in my desktop. I can't take ownership of the Documents and Setting file because there's no Security tab under Properties as there is on other folders. Can I get to Security some other way so I can change permissions, ownership, and all that?

Is there something different about Documents and Settings that causes this? I've searched all over but haven't found anything specific to this system folder.

My PC runs XP, HD came from a laptop running Win 7. Simple file sharing is off on my PC.

OK, well, after posting that question above a link showed up for a search of related topics. I clicked, browsed through a few, and FOUND THE ANSWER! The Documents and Settings folder has been renamed Users in Win 7. The folder I was trying to get into is a dummy. I went back to the HD, went into Users, and found all the files I needed to recover.

So thanks to Tom's Hardware Forum for giving me the answer! Even if it didn't require human intervention. :-)

Thank you very much. I wanted to add some of my fonts to Incredimail and now I can do this.
