I'm looking for a new 1080p monitor and this weekend has some great deals. The monitor would be used for browsing, some light media, and some casual gaming. These monitors are in the same price range ($110-$120) and have good reviews. How do I choose between them? I don't understand things like "ACSR" or "IPS and TN panels." Can I go wrong with any of these?

There's also this Dell for $100. Any downsides to it? Dell E2414Hr 24" LCD

Well TN panels are better for response time. Gaming purposes.. Which apparently are important. They still have great quality. IPS panels usually are 5ms an maybe have 2msGTG. I'm sure the Asus you've chosen is a TN panel

I would go with the last choice. The Asus with 2ms.
GTG is gray to gray
The easiest way to understand IPS and TN panels are that if you tilt an IPS panel, and view the monitor on different angles, you will not get the black fade. You will never lose quality. TN panels are the opposite, when viewed by different angles, you will see a black fade on the screen. It won't really matter which you choose imo because you are viewing the screen straight forward, unless you are presenting the screen to a crowd or something. Then an IPS monitor is essential. However, for gaming a TN panel is recommended because you get a lower ms (like 1ms or 2ms) than IPS, which gives a 5ms. for gaming purposes, you want a lower ms.

so f you are gaming, TN panel low ms.

Higher the contrast is always better like 50000000:1 but you can never visually see the difference between a 30000000:1 and a 50000000:1

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply and that helps me understand IPS vs TN panels.

That's a fine suggestion and it looks like the Asus with 2ms is a solidly-reviewed monitor that would work great. The Asus website doesn't say if this is an IPS or TN panel monitor. It only says: Viewing Angle (CR≧10) : 178°(H)/178°(V). Those seem like great viewing angles, but I'm not sure what quality they really indicate. If I don't get any feedback that indicates I should proceed otherwise, I will go with the VS248H-P.
