Upgrading GPU Looking For Suggestions

I have 7970 with OC and I want to upgrade to an even better GPU as I just sold my phone, I was thinking the GTX 780TI would do but I am not too sure yet, I would like some input and around the same price as the 780TI. I have seen that the R9 290x is supposed to be better than the 780TI so I am just so confused, and help or input would be great... I wouldn't mind crossfire or SLI either once there are no problems.

What can you recommend for me to get?

A 7970 should provide high FPS at 1080p for every game on the market. Are you playing at a higher resolution or have some other reason for upgrading? If you are playing at 1080p the upgrade is rather pointless. The 780 Ti is slightly faster than the 290x but if you have specific games you play you may check on reviews to decide as some games favor one or the other. If you are at playing at 1080p I would save the cash until spring next year when Nvidia launches Maxwell cards as the upgrade will be more noticeable and unless you have a reason to upgrade now.
