I have a Samsung SynicMaster 941 BW which is normally connected through the DVI port on my newly installed Asus 6670 Card. I tried to connect the monitor to the card via Display Port via an adapter cable which has a DVI connector on one end and a DP on the other. When the connection is made the computer can not determine whether the connection is Analogue or Digital and keeps on switching between the two modes for a while until it eventually turns the monitor off. Do I need a special type of an adapter such active/non active type? The adapter I tried is non active; it is simply a wired connection between the DVI/DP plugs.

Yes, the Monitor has two inputs. One VGA and one DVI and the connection that I have tried to make is thru a passive DP to DVI adapter. The screen of the monitor shows how it is trying to connect, first via the Digital connection then by the Analogue VGA.
