Do I need to buy a network adapter with a ASUS M5A78L-M LX Plus motherboard? I see it has an RJ-45 jack. It that for Internet or just connecting computer to computer? If it is for the Internet, is it good enough to run streaming games, or do I need something better?

If I decide to go to wireless, what would you suggest?

No you don't need anything build in is top of the speed for today's computers.
you plug it into Cable modem or some type of router/switch

the speed would depend on your internet service for witch you pay,
today network adapters are much faster then internet,

wireless 802.11n is very wide spread
