Hello people on this site, I'm a new person here so please excuse my question and category decision. Here's my question, I just got a MSI GT70 (2OC-065US) and I want to replace the hard drive for and SSD, so what does that 2.5in drive store?

Does it ONLY contain media (apps, videos, music, downloads, and others) YES OR NO?>

Does the drive conatin anything of Windows 8
As in I replace the HDD with the SSD and all my apps, music etc are deleted but I can just turn the computer on and just normal and get going on my day re installing all my content.
Or in short form: I don't need to re install wondows
Thanks

If you pull out the hard drive, you don't have a functioning computer; conversely, if you just put an SSD in it won't have an operating system, so nothing will work on your laptop. Your hard drive contains all the operating system files, drivers, updates, all your docs, etc. So if you want to upgrade to an SSD you need to be willing to do a clean install, or do a migration. (one guide on migration, there's many: http://lifehacker.com/5837543/how-to-migrate-to-a-solid+state-drive-without-reinstalling-windows)

I don't mind doing a clean install of windows but can i just install the ssd and be rolling again but without any music videos etc? or do I still need to do something else before installing the ssd like
Create Bootable System Recovery USB Drive in WIndows 8?

Do you have a retail copy of your OS? If so, you should have disks, and you just use those to install the OS. You don't need your music and stuff at first, you can copy them onto your SSD down the road.
