My PSU is Corsair CX500 80+ Bronze. From the GPU's box I see it reccommends a 600w power supply but I have this Corsair 500 watt PSU. Here is my build:
-CPU: AMD Athlon X4 750K
-Motherboard: ASUS F2A85-M PRO
-RAM: 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM (with a blue heatsing)
-HDD: 1TB WD Caviar Black

Thanks for all the answers!

I wouldn't recommend using the 280x with your current power supply. You would probably end up with a dead power supply sooner or later and an unstable system.
Your CPU might hold back an AMD 280x in some games very slightly.
Have you considered the AMD 270x?

The R9 280X requires a minimum 550w PSU and 30Amps across the rails. Agreed with above post you will burn out your PSU faster. The CPU may bottleneck the card also on some intensive games but with a decent CPU cooler you can overclock your CPU (Its not the best chip for overclocking but it can be done).

I'm asking if the PSU would deliver enough power for my build. So do you reccommend going with a 600w PSU or is it okay to stay with this one?

As I said wouldn't recommend using the 280x with your current power supply.
If you are going to get an AMD 280x you should get a good quality 600 watt power supply minimum. if you are not going to get a good brand I would suggest maybe going a little higher.
Maybe 650watt

The AMD 280x is a beast of a card. Happy gaming on it:)

How about staying with this one for now and upgrading it to a better one later on?

If you do that you will end up with an unstable computer and possibly damaging your power supply unit.
I would NOT recommend using your current power supply with an AMD 280x graphics card even if it was just temporary. The power supply unit is usually the most underestimated component in a computer and yet it is the only component that can destroy all your other components if it breaks.

What if I set the GPU to the silent mode or whatever just to cut its performance? Will this consume less power allowing me to run my build with the 500w PSU? Even if it works I'm already raising money for a 600w PSU.

I would not recommend it.
You can try it and risk causing hundreds of dollars worth of damage or wait
