A friend gave me a Dell XPS 420 w/8 GB 64 bit.

I had a problem with the Nvidia GForce GT 440 shutting down the whole system w/o warning (overheating). Then the fan on the GPU flew off.
I bought a replacement GT 440 GPU but they sent me a (PNY) Nvidia GForce GT 630 2 gig. I looked it over carefully and it seems that it should work. Problem is it won't show anything on the monitor. I've checked the power unit and believe there is sufficient power to run the card. (I've waited too long to send it back now) Not sure what to do here. Am I wrong in thinking the 630 will run on this computer? Any suggestions as to how to get it to work?
