Recently i bought an fx 6300, upgrading from a fx 4170, i was wondering, since i have a pretty good after market cooler, would it work on the 6300, or will i need to use its stock cooler.

Thats great since the 4170 is overclocked, could i maybe get 5 ghz out of the 6300 or is that a bit extreme

That depends on a number of things, names the "silicon lottery" (if your CPU can actually go that high), your motherboard, and, also, if you have a decent PSU. Also, what aftermarket cooling solution do you have...?

As kind of a crude comparison, though, the former, the TDP of the FX-6300 is 95w. The FX-6350 (a factory-overclocked FX-6300 with a speed of 3.9ghz) has a TDP of 125, which is the same as a stock FX-4170. So getting to 5 ghz is going to take a lot of oomph.

I have a 650w psu, i know that the mobo can handle it, also the cooler is also very very good, i just need to know if the cpu could handle it, if you do not recommend 5ghz what would you recommend, 4.5ghz or maybe 4.6?
