Installing Ubuntu Server, Install appears to be stuck.

I'm installing Ubuntu Server edition on a computer, from a USB drive. It appeared to be going well, it asked what language I wanted to use and if I wanted to install the software. Now it seems to be stuck, the screen is blank. Is this normal?

No that is not normal. It sounds to me as though you may have a hard drive issue, is that possible? After the keyboard selection comes internet connection and then partition detection. If it has a problem identifying a partition to install on it can hang like you say.

Do you have a live version so that you can check the state of the hard drive?
