Can a hard drive be bigger than 2 TB?

I know this is an FAQ, but despite searching for quite some time, I can't find a straight answer to this question for my specific situation. I have Windows XP Pro SP3 32 bit. The system is installed on a 1 TB drive with a single partition. I want to add a new HD with as much space as possible. From my research, it sounds like neither physical nor logical disks can be larger than 2 TB in XP 32 bit without special handling, but I'm not sure.

So the questions are simple: Can any partition on the new HD be bigger than 2 TB and still be usable by the system? If not, can the physical HD be bigger than 2 TB but have multiple partitions 2 TB or smaller, all of which are usable by the system?

Thanks for any help you can give.
