DDR4 Mobo worth it?

I've been researching the various components since I've decided to upgrade my gaming computer after a 4 year lapse.

I've decided that, for the most part, upgrading my CPU to a i5 4670k with an accompanying mobo would probably be the best. I would also be upping my memory from a 4gb to around 8-16 gb of RAM.

But I've noticed that DDR4 may be coming out the beginning of January, so I wasn't sure if I should just continue waiting like I planned or if I should make the jump now while deals are still up and about.

Ultimately, I just want to make sure that if I upgraded to the i5 w/ some mobo w/ some RAM, I'll be able to last 4 years or so without being too sad (Perfectly ok picking up a new graphics card sometime in between if necesary).

Thanks!

in late 2014 or early 2015 when DDR4 is available................... you'll need a new cpu capable of supporting DDR4.

There are no motherboards that support DDR4 and there likely won't be until Fall 2014 for the new 2011 socket CPUs. Don't expect DDR4 on consumer level boards until 2015.

So do you think upgrading now with the specs I listed would carry me over until at least 2016-2017 without any major upgrades? Or will this only last 2 years or less as soon as DDR4 finaly takes a hold.

Yes.

DDR4 will be adopted slowly when it arrives just like DDR3 was, since it will have a higher ultimate speed but the current DDR3 sticks run overclocked well above specs, just like DD2 was doing when DDR3 came along.

was just going to say that. ddr3 was dog when new. I ran a quad 775 for four years before it started to not provide enough performance so I think that 4670k should be as good for as long.
