I have an Asus Ma597 motherboard and a Corsair 500w (semi-modular?/ roughly 8-10 connectors) PSU as well as a radeon HD7850. I am a little confused as to why I have so many cables from my PSU not plugged in to anything?

I have a 6 pin PCI connector into my GPU
I have the 24 pin into the motherboard
I have the 8 pin cable marked CPU into the CPU marked connection.
Am I missing anything to be powered up directly from PSU?
Thanks in advance.

Solution
• Motherboard
• CPU
• Graphics card(s) that draw more than 75 Watts from the +12V rail(s)
• Hard Disk Drive(s)
• Optical Drive(s) (e.g. Blu-ray Disc Drive(s), DVD Drive, CD Drive)
• SSD(s)
• Any Cooling Fan(s) that can't be plugged into a motherboard fan header
• Water cooling pumps
• Any fancy case lighting

so the fans will require power connection from PSU directly?
This is my first build and haven't powered it up yet as wasn't sure if I've connected everything I needed to because I had so many spare cables from the PSU. The CPU cooler is standard and is connected to motherboard.
To refine the question, which components need a direct connection to the power supply unit please?
