Dear community,

I need your advice! I really want to upgrade my system, which I consider outdated, by the end of the holidays when I have amassed many a money from my presents :D. I'd really like to get the best performance possible from my budget of €500($679) but if necessary I am willing to spend €700($950) for my gaming purposes. My current setup is;

Mobo: MSI H61M-E33 with only one PCI express x16 slot
CPU: Intel i5 2500, 3.3GHz quad core
RAM: 1x ADATA 8GB DDR3 1333MHz
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 1GB
PSU: RECOM PE-600PLUS 600W with a max output of 22A on each of the two 12V rails
Case: CoolerMaster CM 690 II
Screen: 1920x1080

My first thought was to buy a R9 290X but I wanted to wait until there were custom cooling solutions by other companies. But then Nvidea came with the GTX780Ti and I was completely blown away by its sheer power so I immediately decided I wanted one, but then there is the matter of which one I should buy the Gigabyte, the ASUS, the EVGA? But lately I have been thinking that I could buy two AMD cards for the same price as the Nvidea even though my mobo needs replacement then. However I am quite inexperienced with Crossfire so I don't know if this would be a valid choice, considering the stories I heard about incompatibilities and all that jazz.

Maybe you guys could help me find the wisest decision? I would be really grateful for your time!

Thanks in advance!

Solution
for 1080p get a R9 280x it will do well for higher resolutions and wont cost that much, with the remaining amount i doubt u can get the latest high end cpu and mobo... still look for deals in your local area for a newer i5... or u can even get a i5 2500k and OC it and get decent performance upgrade.
r9 280x and HD7970 are both good and pretty much the same so get wotever costs less.

Thanks for the reply dknightxs.

Although it might be a little bit late since I only just recently bought the MSI R9 290X Lightning. I do have to say that I am very glad with my purchase :)
I am gonna pick your answer as the solution since you are absolutely right the R9 290X is a tad overkill for just 1080P but I wanted something extravagant :D
Thanks again for bothering with helping a 5 month old thread!
