RAM filling up constantly

Hi all. So as I mentioned in the title, my RAM usage keeps going up for no reason. Task Manager doesn't show anything out of the ordinary and my antivirus can't find anything. The memory keeps on filling up until it reaches 3.5-3.8 GB (85-93%) and stops.

Now, the weird thing is that when I open a game with my RAM usage at 90-ish percent, it actually goes down and the game works fine. It's like the PC finally remembers that it's time to purge all the needlessly used memory.

Ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance :)

Start it in safe mode and observe. Check the task manager for running processes. Check again in regular mode and compare. But it sure sounds like though that you need to run a suite of malware detection devices and virus checkers, even in safe mode. Google (or equivalent) is your friend to find a set of software to run.

How often do you restart the PC? Some software when closed does not properly release ram that it used. You end up with all the ram still assigned to software, even though the software is closed. Thus the PC ends up slowing down and freezing. Restarting frees up the ram.

You didn't state what the OS you have. If Win 7 or later try upping to 8 GB (if the MB allows)

I shut it down every night and start it up in the morning. But it still does it. It started doing this 2-3 weeks after I had re-installed my Windows (7, 64-bit) so could it be a faulty OS? I believe they will send me a free copy since it is still under warranty but I really don't want to re-install again...

Also, my RAM is DDR2 because of mobo restrictions. And DDR2 RAM is really expensive in my country right now. I don't want to spend more money on this PC because I'll be leaving it to my parents in about a year.

By the way, the system doesn't crash or freeze. Task manager just shows a high memory usage, but I have no performance impact whatsoever. Not yet at least.

I am ashamed to admit that I had a torrent tracker in my PC that had been seeding the entire time and that's what was using up all of my RAM... I found it in the resource monitor in safe mode and when I stopped it, everything went back to normal. Hopefully it'll stay like this. I don't even remember pirating anything!

Thanks dude, for your help. I really appreciate it.
