How can I tell if a graphics card will work?

Okay, so look I've been seriously contemplating buying my first graphics card but with my computer I get a brain fart trying to figure out which is right, I thought it would be as easy as just buying it and putting it in but that was wrong. I sent back the first one but now I'm thinking about this new one here.

With an old P4 and only 1GB of RAM, I would first suggest adding some more memory. Maybe 4 GB total. I'm assuming you have 32 bit XP. Probably should replace the 1GB stick(s) altogether and put a couple 2GB sticks in there.

I would expect that the motherboard would have a PCIe X16 slot. If so, the card in your link should work. Can you look on the MB and see if there is a make/model printed on it?

I'm away from my computer at the moment visiting relatives and their computer blocks me from logging into google therefore can't log in here. I am going to post when I can thanks so much for replying.

I just did a little research and the model number "PM215AV" leads me to a notebook, not a desktop. But usually the "SFF" designates a small form factor desktop. Let me know if you have the laptop or the desktop. If you have the laptop, the gfx card cannot be upgraded.
