Whatsup guys,
Looking to upgrade my video card (from a PowerColor 7770). I'm on a $150-250ish budget.

  • I currently have a 520w Apevia PSU (which I know isn't reliable).
    Athlon II X4 640 Processor.
So basically I'm debating between a 6950, 7870, 7950. And I know that the higher the series the more PSU it steals. And if I can find a happy place or if I should just upgrade my PSU completely for a 7950. I want to play BF4, Bioshock Infinite on pretty much highest settings. With about 1600x900 res.

Cyber Monday is tomorrow too so I need responses ASAP :D

Solution
get the best GPU you can afford, which sounds like the 7950. The 7950 is awesome for the money and can easily be oc for an extra 40-50% performance, just get one with a good cooler and unlocked voltage. You might even be able to get a 7970 under $250, which would be even better.

If your PSU is unreliable, it should be replaced to avoid damaging other hardware or causing strange resets. 520W would just be enough for the 7950, I run 2 and my system takes 290W playing BF4 and 520W GPU stress test (depending on the clocks/voltage, it can go up to 700W with a big oc).

Ahh I see. So what your saying is to probably buy a brand-name PSU. 500w? or should I go for a higher end psu?

get a PSU from Corsair, Antec, or seasonic. they are the most trusted brands and always produce their rated power. if you want to run a 7950, a 550w quality unit is fine.
