sorry if this is a tedious and lame question but I'm getting a new PC soon and I need opinions on whats better for gaming/in general.

to me, it seems that most peoples issue in 8 (dont know about 8.1) is that its harder to find stuff/work with because of the new ui.

But do I loose any actual functionality/performance or is the only reason people didn't like 8 is because of the new ui?
does 8.1 fix these things?

I also heard 8.1 was faster than 7(or at least it looked snappier).

Anyways, sorry if the question has been answered already I didn't look too much into it.

windows 8 is faster becuase microsoft wrote it so the os and mb never realy shut off. on windows 7 windows used to write itself to the drive then shut off. with windows 8 windows writes itself like it sleeping on power down so it never realy reloads itself at cold boot. I have windows 8.1 and i use the free clasic start menu and it looks and almost acts like windows 7. with windows 8.1 you can get rid of that meto gui and boot into the desktop.
