Earlier today i was playing a game with a couple of friends when suddenly these little white squares appeared on my monitor in an almost gridlike fashion. The game froze and so did my screen, but quickly came back after a short while. Since then every time i open a game or do anything even semi-graphically intensive, the same problem is occuring, sometimes even crashing my computer. Im running a MSI GTX 580 Lightning and have been without problems for almost 2 years now. I also tried running the OCCT 3D GPU test and the same problem occured about 40 seconds in and crashed the program. Some help or replies would be greatly appreciated :)

Power issues or video card issues. Could be RAM too be unlikely.
Most likely your GPU.

I've never OC'd and i've also let the computer cool down for a bit. Also just as an added thing i forgot to mention, i can physically hear the graphics card fan stop running whenever this occurs, then it soon starts back up again. Also would this likely be a hardware or software issue?

What is the temp, you got it two years ago... if you think it's software, what have you done in the last couple days, installing or changing software?

If im reading the OCCT HW Monitor right its around 49 degrees C. Also aside from the game dungeon defenders, I havent really installed anything new lately.

Do you any spare parts or another computer by you? Try switching video card and run the test, just to be sure if the 580 isn't just too old.
