Hey guys I'm hoping someone can answer a question for me. Just recently my pc has been making a strange crackling sound when playing back any audio. Is was wondering if this was a motherboard or gpu problem. I tried different hdmi cables, ports, displays to only get the same result. My build is a msi fm2-a75ma-e35 motherboard
CPU- AMD athlon II x4 760k, gpu- msi r7 260x 2gb gddr5 oc 8gb of 1866mhz ram everything else works fine except for that audio problem. So is it a gpu or motherboard problem?

Solution
The audio comes from the hdmi if that is all you have plugged in. Whether the audio is processed on your motherboard and then sent to the graphics card and down the hdmi cable, I don't know.

Interesting. I have a similar issue with my build with my Bose computer speakers plugged into my Asus 990FX Sabertooth (the green port). It only happens sometimes and only when I shut down my computer, I get a hiss on my speakers or any audio out.

What kind of speakers are you running? And what are they plugged into? Are there any power cables from your power supply near the audio components on the motherboard? maybe that would cause interference?

It is connected via hdmi to a 32" LCD HDTV. I'm using the built-in speakers. I updated audio drivers and everything but nothing helped. There are no other electrical equipment near by. I use the hdmi port on my gpu does the audio come from the hdmi or motherboard?
