I have a seagate 1tb external hard drive, and i thought that in order to password protect it i would encrypt it via 'bitlocker encryption' which was in the manage tab of my computer when i highlighted my drive. Through the time i would encrypt it and pause only when i have to close my laptop, but recently when i try to resume the encryption is says 'drive not ready' or when i enter my password and try to open my hard drive, my computer freezes up and i cannot open my drive. I took it to my IT guy and he says i cannot use it anymore, and being not very computer literate, i wanted advice on how it could be fixed, in terms of file recovery and formating it once files are found.

thanks

Solution
1) if the drive itself is crapped out, then the drive itself is physically broken
2) if the encryption is corrupted (due to the damaged drive) then the data on it is lost permanently unless your willing to spend minimum of $45K to over $250K for Data Recovery Specialists (like the ones whom recovered Data for 9-11 computers or flooded ones in Katrina). But your data would need to be worth more then that, and there is NO garuntees.
3) If you try Bitlocker Encryption from a similiar version of Windows on ANOTHER computer and you tried the same 'correct' password on it and it still doens't work then see #2 above
