Morning!

PC has started to become a bit aged, starting to crash randomly and show signs of slowing down. Decided to upgrade a few parts and any advice on the parts themselves or compatibility would be awesome.

Parts I have already and plan to transfer over;
AMD 6300 CPU
Radeon HD 7770 GPU
G7 880W PSU
1TB Toshiba HDD

Parts I am looking to replace;
MoBo (AM3+ socket)
RAM (8GB, possibly look at getting 1x4GB to start then buy the second at a later date)

Basically, can anyone recommend budget replacements for these two?
Also looking into the possibility of an SSD. Heard good things about the Hybrid drives as well, cheaper and with a similar upgrade to performance?

Cheers,

Paul

Yes you can upgrade RAM at any time. That motherboard had 4 dimms also. It will hold more RAM than you ever need lol

I'm browsing RAM prices on amazon.co.uk and geez RAM is expensive over there!

I do CT, FX6300 sorry.

Not very much essentially, looking at sub £45 for the MoBo.

More concerned about getting items that are compatible, don't know much about them myself. I.e Fitting my current parts into the new MoBo and making sure the RAM is compatible.

Cheers

So what do you do with your pc that you feel like it runs slow? I don't think it's a hardware problem. You should try getting a 120-128GB ssd and reinstall windows onto it. I bet a clean install of windows will do the trick. A ssd would be a huge upgrade over any hard drive.

Have very much been contemplating an SSD, was so close to buying one yesterday until a friend mentioned it may be worth looking at getting a hybrid.

Reason for looking at a new MoBo is my current one becoming out of date, would like to upgrade it anyway and looking for something that is compatible :)

RAM is secondary and not essential currently, but if there was a good deal on a 4GB stick of RAM that would match the new MoBO might as well pick it up.

Cheers CT!

What motherboard are you using now? The FX 6300 is a great cpu. I very seriously doubt IT is your problem.
I recommend getting a 970 series motherboard at least unless you can afford a 990FX series. The FX 6300 is a great overclocker, but you need a good motherboard to do it. (along with a good cpu cooler)

A ssd will make a HUGE difference. I promise you.

Currently using an Asus M5A78L-M LX that I brought a good 2 and a half years ago now.

The FX6300 is new, only a month or so old, don't know much about OC'ing so haven't yet and probably won't any time soon. Would this change your answer on a MoBo if you knew I wasn't going to OC?

Any recommendations on SSD's then?

Cheers

Ok CT, will look at getting a SSD later. However, not quite willing to spend £70 on a 970 series just yet.

Like I say not ever OC'ed and don't intend on any time soon, what other MoBo's would be compatible and good value for money?

Cheers

Can you not find a 970 series cheaper than that? I've seen them for around $40-50 USD lately.

Maybe you should get a ssd now, and upgrade your mobo later.

Anything less than a 970 series wouldn't be much of a upgrade and wouldn't be worth spending the money on.

I think so, but I think an ssd will be a bigger/better upgrade. If you're having performance issues, a clean install of windows will likely solve the issue by itself. Putting windows on a ssd will make your system run/feel much much faster.
What RAM do you have?

I recently bought an Adata sp900 128GB ssd and I'm very happy with it. I already use a Samsung 830 128GB ssd and it's awesome too. I put an OCZ Agility 3 180GB ssd in my wife's laptop and it has been good too. Three is zero performance difference between them. They are all fast a hell.

My RAM was attained at the same time as my MoBo. Its 2x2GB, couldn't tell you what make or model off the top of my head.

Been getting crashes that after a bit of reading I have put down to either a faulty DIMM slot or a faulty RAM stick, both need replacing anyway so toushay.

Cheers

CT,

Thanks for all the help! Just another question whilst I'm here :)

Looking at buying now;

Kingston 120GB SSDNow V300 or Sandisk 128GB Pulse SSD (£8 cheaper). Is there any big difference between these two?

MoBo: Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P

And then possibly one stick of 4GB RAM to go along side these, not quite sure how the different MHz RAM's work?

Would all the above, with a RAM stick of your suggestion be compatible?

Cheers,

Paul

No worries, your help has been fantastic thanks :)

Will look at getting the 3 or so bits shipped later. I can run with 1 stick of the linked RAM for now, and buy a second at a later date right?

Cheers
