I currently have

ASUS P8H61-M LX2 MOBO (http://tinyurl.com/mpx8q4v)
Intel Core i5-2500k @ 3.30GHz
AMD Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-bit PCIe 2.1x16
16 (2x8) DDR3 GB RAM
Antec Earthwatts 650W PSU

I'm looking to upgrade to a 2GB 258-bit PCIe 3.0 card.

My budget is $200, I was entertaining a 7870, or R9 270(x). It's been a while between builds and upgrades so I'm worried I'll make a mistake, or be miss informed as to what would be the best upgrade for my system.

a vapor-x r9 270x will be pretty good or an msi hawk but it costs more about 20 bucks or something

Thanks for the Suggestion! looks like those are running between 200-230 (with shipping, tax etc)

Would the performance difference be far superior to a 7870? If its only marginal that's where price becomes a factor for me. These were the 4 I was looking at before I posted on here

** Because of the small size of the card I would have to worry less about my mid tower being cramped.

However if the 270x absolutely takes it over the 7870's I can shell out a few extra dollars.

That Asus 7870 Ghz is a steal at $140 after rebate.

The 270x is only very slightly ahead of an ordinary 7870. The Ghz outright flips the table onto its back.

that 7870 ghz edition would be perfect in your system at 1920x1080p and it will support the new mantle when it is released :)

I ordered the http://tinyurl.com/m46yb9v before I went to bed

Woke up to...

Hah! Goes to show you the world of computer tech.

Thank you all for your input, made the process 200x easier. Also, I was thinking about upgrading a mobo in the near future (more than likely get another 7870GHz to run with it) .. Any suggestions (keeping my Core i5 sandy bridge set up)

Ah well still with that rebate on the asus card getting it at a price of 139 is still really good value :)  as for a motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... is good and a decent price or if you want to OC that i5 2500k you could go with the z77 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
