How reliable is a Akasa Cobra Power 750W Modular Power Supply PSU?

Solution
The Corsair CX range is pretty good value for money, especially at lower wattages. Once you step up to higher capacities, it starts to make a bit less sense economically. They are pretty decent though, and come with a 3 year warranty.
The XFX Core and XXX ranges are generally seen as being a step up in quality, and come with a 5 year warranty.

As mentioned above though, 750W is a lot for most systems (way more than you need). It is however a sensible amount if at some point you plan to go for anything up to mid-range SLI/Xfire, though it's always worth checking out specifics when you make purchases.

Not 100% on this as i believe that is a new range. Can't find any where if it has 80+ cert or not. Akasa as a brand has a few hit and miss power supplies, id say more miss than hit.

Personally i'd just go for something from a known reliable brand like Seasonic, XFX, Antec etc

Would it be worth paying the £10 more to get it at 750W and semi-modular? ->http://www.dabs.com/products/xfx-750w-xxx-edition-proseries-semi-modular-80--bronze-psu-8K0T.html?refs=50544&src=3

I'm happy paying £80. Is that the best for that price?

What about a Corsair CX750M? Its cheaper and ive seen them PSU in a lot of builds. Would that be a better option for money. And do any of these come with warranties

What are the chances of going xfire route rather than a new card? because the other option is a RM650W which is probably a better PSU?

I don't know your system setup so it's impossible to comment really. Personally I don't think SLI/Xfire represents good value for money for most people. Adding a second card somewhere down the line means relying on prices to fall in line with the performance spectrum, and historically, that just doesn't happen. More likely is that after a year (or more), there is a far better way to spend your money that avoids any of the hassles of multi GPU setups, and without paying a premium for something which is out of production.

On topic, a 550-650W PSU can run any single GPU graphics card on the market. For most mainstream cards, that figure is going to be more like 500-550W.
The RM series is a more premium line of PSUs, it's 80Plus Gold rated and also has a 5 year warranty, it's more competing with the XFX Black edition (80Plus Gold) PSUs than the Core/XXX ranges. If you are looking to extract the most value from a budget orientated build, it's not the range to look at, but in the more premium bracket it's certainly worth consideration.

650W is plenty. If there is a particularly good deal on a 750W then go for it, but otherwise it's likely to be a waste of money.
Modular PSUs worth a look -
£66 Antec HCG-620M - Semi-modular, 80Plus Bronze, 5 year warranty
£70 XFX P1-650X-XXB9 - Semi-modular, 80Plus Bronze, 5 year warranty
£79 XFX P1-750X-XXB9 - Semi-modular, 80Plus Bronze, 5 year warranty
£82 EVGA NEX650G - Fully modular, 80Plus Gold, 5 year warranty
£86 Corsair RM650- Fully modular, 80Plus Gold, 5 year warranty
There's a few others, especially if you don't mind normal cables, but that's a decent bunch to investigate.

As a side note, you might want to hold off on the case fans until you have the system up and running. That case already comes with two installed which should be enough to have a decent enough airflow (especially with the CPU cooler channelling it too). Each subsequent fan will suffer in one way or another from diminishing returns, and the fan controller in the R4 only supports 3 fans as far as I can tell. Just a thought anyway.

For the fans I was going to get a PWM splitter - smart fan cable as well, i have already ordered the fans and this but i can always cancel if need be.

And out of them I would say the XFX P1-650X-XXB9 for price and performance if 650 is plenty. I cant seem to find it for £70 though.

And what about a be quiet! Power Zone 650W Modular Power Supply for £78?
