Hey all,

Quick question regarding performance. I have a FX-4100 overclocked to 4.2Ghz, and a 6870 (975/1200 i think). I was wondering if I upgraded the graphics card to say a 7870, would the FX4100 bottleneck it (even at 4.2ghz?)

If so - what would you recommend upgrading? Would I see a higher performance boost in BF4 with a cpu upgrade or a graphics card upgrade?

Thanks!

Solution
Are you use 1080p resolution?

I recommend at least a two level upgrade when buying a gpu. The 7870 is about a 1 1/2. Good gpu and some good prices on them now though.

The 7870 will be a nice performance increase over your 6870 and will be noticable what resolution are you playing at? BF4 (Online) is cpu intensive and the fx 4100 will start to give you drops in fps a better fx cpu like an 8320 would make that 7870 show its full capabilites

Appreciate the input everyone!

Yeah I'm playing 1080p on high right now, works decent but it definitely has some slowdowns. I was thinking the same thing Embra... might hold off until the next gen cards come out then just upgrade the cpu / gpu together. I assume anything higher than a 7870 would be overkill for my fx4100 though, right?
