Turn Windows 7 into storage on HDD after installing W7 on SSD?

I am not sure if what I am asking is possible (perhaps not googling the right thing). I was gifted a Kingston SSDnow v300 yesterday. Most forum posts said to do a fresh install of W7 on the SSD, so I did that. After downloading a few necessities, I noticed that although most of my programs run from the HDD, but Windows can't find them with a start button search.

Is there a way to avoid digging through explorer/making shortcuts? I unplugged my HDD during install, perhaps that was a mistake? I'd like to be able to type in a file/program name.

You made no mistake in removing the HDD to install Windows on the SSD, that is always the recommended thing to do.
Not removing the HDD would have made no difference to your current problem.

Since you've installed a fresh copy of Windows, all the registry information for the applications on the HDD has gone, so it's not simply a case of creating new shortcuts. You have to re-install those applications which are affected. That will restore the information to the registry and at the same time will create the necessary shortcuts. There is no other way.

Thanks, that makes sense for the program files. What about the documents and media files? I right clicked on My Videos for example and didn't know if I needed to change permissions use sharing options.
