so newegg has 7870ghz for 140? and R9 290s for 400... 2 7870s for 280 IS DAMN GOOD... but should I just hold off for astound sound, and the other what nots of the r9 290? I've been looking for benchmarks of the 2 but can't seem to find them I suspect that the 7870ghzx2 will outperform the single card but am not sure can I get some help here?

I have 7870 cf and am very happy with it. In the games that support it well they will easily beat a single 290 (and run cooler). I could give you benchmarks tonight, if I remember. I've been playing BF4 at 2560x1440 and on high with aa off it's usually around 70-80 fps, but have seen the occasional dip to 30.

I would suggest getting the R9 290 and CF later down the road. The 7870 is getting old now and even though AMD is fixing there CF issue its still not a solid choice over a single GPU. If your gonna get the R9 290 its best to wait for some after market cards with better cooling. IMO the R9 290 should perfume better the CF 7870's

maybe the standard clocked cards but they're GHZ edition which makes it even closer of a race and they're 120 cheaper, they're cooler, and quieter as well

It seems everyone gets confused by this. 7870 GHz are the stock cards. That is 1000 MHz is the stock clock for 7870s. There was a cut down 7950 called the 7870 XT which is more powerful. You gotta love marketing.

CF works pretty well in BF3 but in other games its not much faster that a 7970 which is slower than the R9 290. I have an 7870 and am picking up the R9 290 when they have non reference available. Its always better to get the best single card you can right now then CF later than buying two mid end GPU
