I have an HP XW6600 workstation with dual e5430 processors. Is an upgrade to 5460 or higher a plug and play, or do I need a different motherboard? Thanks

Go here for a list of compatible CPUs for the HP. You may just need to update the motherboard's BIOS (if not running the most current version now to recognize the new CPUs). Do the upgrade BEFORE installing the new CPUs:

So, if you have the current BIOS and you select compatible CPUs, then it is largely "plug and play" process.

Supported CPUs:
Intel Xeon E5450/ 3.00 GHz, 12MB L2, 1333 MHz, FSB, 80W GX574AA
Intel Xeon E5440/ 2.83 GHz, 12MB L2, 1333 MHz, FSB, 80W GX573AA

Not Supported:
Intel® Xeon® Processor X5460 - this is a 120 Watt TDP (Thermal Power Design) model. The motherboard does not support CPUs with that kind of TDP.
