Motherboard toast or am I going crazy?

A few months back I was drinking some beer and accidentally knocked it off my desk on onto the top of my computer case. The inside of the computer got splashed with a bit of beer (from what I could tell just a little bit on the motherboard) since I have a cooling exhaust fan on the top. The computer then proceeds to shut down. After letting the computer dry and wiping it down, I try and boot it back up. The hardware inside seems to all start up fine but anything plugged into the USB ports doesn't work and I am not getting any output from my graphics card (HDMI(tried DisplayPort and DVI)).

After this I figure some of the motherboard got fried.

Fast forward to last night. I put my computer back together to try and see if it will work, hoping I don't have to spend money I don't have. I try and do this every few weeks... just because. For whatever reason the computer boots up and runs like normal?

Being that the computer was not on for a few months, it needed some firmware and software updated so I let it update overnight. When I woke up this morning, the USB ports and any of the display output ports decided not to work again, even after soft and hard resets.

Any thoughts?

yeah..
maybe you can sell your i7 920 processor, $80 or at most $100 for that.Just maybe..maybe more, maybe less..
Then buy a new motherboard+processor combo..

well, an amd based system will be a great for you..

something like this,
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/lMu3

for less than $165, you'll get a nice combo for motherboard and processor..:)

or this one, if you're not really tight on budget..

It's a better motherboard, and you can reach 4.2-4,4GHz six core processor with this processor motherboard combo.

okay..
not work again, almost means some electric short in your mobo..

the treatment..

wash your motherboard with soap and water..but make sure you've unplug your battery bios first..
clean all socket and all component with tooth brush..do it gently..

after all dust is removed, dry in in the sun for at least 12 hours..

make sure all of it dry completely..

then try to use it..

hope the best will happen :)

Thing is, I have an i7-920 which is a LGA 1366 socket paired with a ASUS P6T SE mobo... all discontinued.

Looks like I am gonna have to shell out some money for some upgrades. I can't find a mobo for less than $200, and that is used

Thanks for all of your help Quaddro! Just wondering now. Since I will be getting a new motherboard and processor, I need to make sure my other components will be compatible. Here is the rest of my build:

PSU:CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active
RAM: Crucial Ballistix DDR3 PC3-10700H (667 MHz) 2GB (x3)
Graphics: PowerColor PCS+ AMD Radeon HD 7870 Myst Edition 2GB GDDR5
Hard Drive(s): OCZ-Vertex4 128GB SSD
WD Black 500GB
WD Blue 1TB
Case: Cooler Mast HAF932

Everything looks good to me there. Just want to make sure.

Oh by the way, looking at the second option you mentioned. I am a big core gamer and I would shell out the money for an i5 and a nice mobo to pair, but money is tight.

let's see

PSU:CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-750TX 750W => Excellent PSU
==
RAM: Crucial Ballistix DDR3 PC3-10700H (667 MHz) 2GB (x3) => well, all system right now run in dual channel, not triple channel. that's mean, you have to add a piece of ram for double dual channel, or you run it in dual channel only. that's mean, you have to throw away a piece of your memory..
if you run in 3 pieces, that's mean your system will run in single channel, and it'll sacrifice your performance
=========
Graphics: PowerColor PCS+ AMD Radeon HD 7870 Myst Edition 2GB GDDR5
wow..7870 based on tahiti core..it's rare item..:D. Excellent.
===
Hard Drive(s): OCZ-Vertex4 128GB SSD
WD Black 500GB
WD Blue 1TB
Excellent storage system..:)
===
Case: Cooler Mast HAF932
====

yeah, actually i5 based system is the best for gaming..
but if you tight on budget, hexa core amd based cpu is not too shabby..:D

Well, new games today actually more gpu dependent than cpu..so, whatever your cpu, as long as it's decent, and if you pair it with an excellent gpu, you'll still gain very good fps..

You are my new friend, Quaddro! Any recommendations for ram? I usually just go by whats highest rated on Newegg and choose that way. I do like getting recommendations to lead me to the right pair though :-D

Thank you for being my friend..:)

okay, actually lesser ram will lead you to more stable system..
if you wanna pure performance, so, i suggest you to buy a new ram...maybe you can sell your old ram..
gskill sniper 1866 is fast memory..
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f314900cl9d8gbsr
excellent with an amd based system..

But if you don't wanna spend more money, you can buy another stick of memory for you system..so you can run 8GB in double dual channel..
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/crucial-memory-ct25664ba1339.
actually this is will give a slower result of memory transfer (1866 vs 1333), but you'll not notice while gaming..just a few fps slower than 1866 gskill memory.

well, actually, if i were you, i'll add just 1 more stick memory and run it in double dual channel..because i'm tight on money too..:D

I am liking the gskill sniper 1866 memory, but its not in stock at Newegg nor NCIX :-(

Any other suggestions similar to those sticks?

Edit: I see some RAM on sale :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231550&nm_mc=AFC-dealnews&cm_mmc=AFC-dealnews-_-NA-_-NA-_-N82E16820231550

its the G.SKILL Area Series 8GB( 2x4GB ) DDR3 1866

No idea about the performance of this RAM though. Any thoughts?
