My PC is getting a bit long in the tooth, but I don't really have the funds to do a full upgrade. I'm looking at potential incremental upgrades and thinking that a video card would be the best buy at the moment. I can run Farcry 3 smoothly on Low, Bioshock Infinite on Medium (though I occasionally get some chop loading new areas) and Neverwinter runs on High except in the main town.

My specs (from memory):
Asus P5QL Pro motherboard
Dual Core 3GHz CPU
4GB RAM
1GB Radeon HD4850 Video Card
500GB HDrive
Not sure on Power Supply

I am looking at the $150-200 range for a video card, and the R9 270 or R9 270x look good, but they are at the upper end of the price range. There are a few 7870's on Newegg in the sub-$150 range that are tempting. The speed difference doesn't seem considerable, especially considering what I am upgrading from. Plus if I save some $$ I can put the excess towards future upgrades.

Is it worth my time to even consider an upgraded video card, or should I continue on until I can actually manage a full rebuild?

Solution
The 7870 would be a significant step up. It can run Farcry and Bioshock Infinite on High settings, keep in mind you'll need at least a 500 watt power supply. You might want to consider adding some more RAM, 8gb is becoming the new standard. But yes, a 7870 would run games very good. :wahoo:
