Western Digital External Drive I/O error

I have a 2 TB WD My Passport external hdd. It is about a year old and has not been dropped. I get bluescreened quite often when I have it mounted to my computer (I'm on win 8). I am trying to use it to back up some files as I swap some drives in and out of my laptop and my newly built computer.

The copy starts fine and initially transferes at about 30MB/s. The transfer speed decreases over time until at about two minutes the copy stops with a message that says, "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

Any ideas what could be going wrong? Do I just have a bad drive?

Drive is bad.
Try TeraCopy, this should let you skip the bad files.

Teracopy worked great. Apparently there were 13 bad files.
